Ressac : Retour violent des vagues sur elles-mêmes / The Waves Violently Turn Back on Themselves.
These images extend the Cinétroupe experience in the creation of the Tous les autres s’appellent Zéki show. The urge to make a film about hints of lives spent in the country of origin is born of meetings. Opening yourself up to the past and trying to find a living memory there is a way of finding the OTHER in all its dimensions, making all its richness visible and creating the foundation of a shared world from it. The camera rebuilds the connections between the exile here, the Cinétroupe actor, and what he left behind him: his girl friend from university, his sister Leïla, his nephew Memet, the
village of Zourabad, the digs in Teheran, girl friend Nahid, little Elham, his mother’s grave, a storm in
Azerbaijan, Shabnam’s leaving school... The faces and panoramas of Iran
and Turkey are seen as roads leading to us. A song rooted in the shores of the Bosphorus is finally washed up on a
North Sea beach.
