Les Halles poursuivent leur réflexion sur les rapports entre images et politique, geste artistique et engagement, et tournent leur regard vers la Palestine. Terre meurtrie,  occupée et médiatisée, comment représenter ce pays ? Au delà de la bonne conscience ou de la propagande, quelles démarches artistiques insufflent une pensée politique ?

Pour nourrir le débat, projection dans l’après-midi de Ici et Ailleurs, film de Jean-Luc Godard tourné en 1970 avec le groupe Dziga Vertov dans les camps palestiniens.

Ce colloque constitue le premier moment d’un «chantier Palestine» que les Halles développeront dans les saisons à venir, chambre d’écho de ce qui se joue dans ces territoires et des échanges artistiques entre artistes d’ici et de là-bas.

Following the interest aroused by the Temps d’images Special Apaches symposium last year, Les Halles is continuing its interest in the relationships between and fusion of images with politics, artistic expression and the adoption of positions, by concentrating on a particular space – Palestine. An invaded, injured, disdained country, snatched at, violated, torn by revolt, how can Palestine manage to “project” itself into the future and into creativity? What is the status and what is the role of the images we receive from Palestine ? And how do our artists and theirs see this territory and this history? To discuss this highly political topic we have invited a group of politically committed and concerned artists, headed by Elias Sanbar, Palestinian historian, writer, translator of the poet Mahmoud Darwich, author of the magnificent work The Palestinians – a Land and its People from 1839 to the Present Day in Photographs (Les Palestiniens, la photographie d'une terre et de son peuple de 1839 à nos jours - Hazan, 2004), Michel Khleifi, the film director who worked with Eyal Sivan on the documentary Route 181, Avi Moghrabi, the Israeli film director, and last but not least writer, lecturer and film critic Patrick Leboutte, founder of the publication known as L’image, le monde.

This symposium “Palestine: images et politique” is the opening shot of the “Palestine workshop” which Les Halles intends to develop throughout the coming seasons as an echo and sounding board for what is happening in this part of the world along with artistic interchanges between our artists and theirs.
