Janusz Marek, theatre and dance curator at CCA, founder and director of Rozdroze Festival presents a special dance evening by Susanne Linke. Artist performs her solo “Im Bade wannen”, her most famous choreographic work. She shows a woman in an everyday situation, namely in her bathroom, where she is confronted with her own bathtub and her own tedium. The fact that Linke herself performs this choreographic work, which she has not danced for a long time, gives the work a new dimension, that of an aging body that remembers the movements of days long past. In “Im Bade wannen” (music by Eric Satie) Susanne Linke tells about herself, her emotions and her longings. Second unique proposition of the evening is “Akut“, her solo, in the beginning shown as “Tanz-Dis-Tanz” with Urs Dietrich. “Akut” is a demonstration of live dance and video, relations between artist inner world and her movement, connections between physical movement and virtual image. It is a triumph of will over the fleeting nature of time.

Susanne Linke, born in Lüneburg in 1944, is a special case among the most influential choreographers of German Tanztheater. She studied at the dance department of the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen just like Pina Bausch or Reinhild Hoffmann. But her formal aesthetic influences come more from the prior period, which she spent in Mary Wigman’s studio in Berlin. This is where she also met Dore Hoyer: her great idol. Thereupon, she danced at the Folkwang Tanzstudio and the Rotterdams Dans Center. In 1972, she started her own choreographic work and directed the Folkwang Tanzstudio. Since 1985, she has been working as a freelance choreographer for the José Limón Company in New York, the Parisian Opera and the Nederlands Dans Theater among others. She directed the Bremer Tanztheater, she was the designated artistic director of the Choreographisches Zentrum Zeche Zollverein in Essen and since then has been a freelance choreographer. But her real speciality has always been solo work, from small-format pieces in the beginning (such as “Wandlung“ or “Im Bade Wannen“) to the full-length “Schritte verfolgen“.
